Mental Health Services Overview

Milestones is the specialist mental health division of Aspects and Milestones Trust. Since 1987 we have provided high quality, person centred care and housing for people with serious and enduring mental health needs. We support more than 250 people who live in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.

The service is delivered within a range of small residential care homes, nursing homes and supported housing schemes. Each scheme has its own unique character, but all of them share the common vision of delivering the highest quality support available to people with serious and enduring mental health needs.

Our service users value the long-term commitment offered by Milestones. Service user involvement is fundamental to our work. We focus on self-empowerment and promote group empowerment within each home. Milestones has a committed programme of user evaluation and user focus groups to help shape policies and standards of care.

Our mission is to enable people with mental health needs to lead fulfilling lives in the community. We seek to continually improve our service and to be responsive to the changing needs and wishes of the people we support.

Residential and Nursing Home Care

We offer 14 specialist homes that provide high-level support to more than 100 people with serious and enduring mental health needs. The homes are well established within local communities throughout Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.

The staff teams embrace a person-centred approach. They involve residents in the day-to-day running of the homes and work with individuals to develop and pursue their own personal goals and choices.

Each home has its own character where residents can work to achieve their own unique potential, while benefiting from a safe and secure home environment.

We offer a wide range of support tailored to individuals, including:

  • high level nursing home care for people with very complex support needs
  • small homes that promote an independent domestic lifestyle
  • homes that support younger residents to pursue education and employment and to move-on to more independent housing.
  • homes that offer long-term support to older adults with mental and physical health needs
  • women-only and men-only homes
  • our homes are well situated to enable residents to make use of ordinary community facilities

Individual home brochures are available that describe the qualities and services of each home.

Current Projects

Milestones regularly consults with colleagues, commissioners, staff and clients in order to develop new areas or schemes to help motivate, stimulate and encourage clients to regain self confidence, gain skills and become an active member of the community. Our current projects are:

Work INClusive

Creating opportunities for service user to develop vocational skills and enjoy the support of their peers.  Based at Easton Community Centre, our emphasis is on helping people to secure and retain paid employment in their community.  Users gain skills and experience by running a cafĂ© - Cafe INClusive - and helping out at the Community Centre.  Job coaches work with service users in mainstream employment, gradually withdrawing their involvement to allow individuals to work independently.
